The Royapuram Railway Station in Chennai, is the 2nd Oldest operating Railway Station in the country, and remains the oldest surviving Railway Station Structure in the Indian Subcontinent, opened in 1856. Apart from being the headquarters to the then Madras & Southern Mahratta Railways, it was also the birthplace of one of the oldest lodges in our district, the John Miller Lodge No. 1906.
Named after RW Bro. John Miller, then Administrator General of Madras & Official Trustee of Madras Presidency state, he was the District Grand Master of our District Grand Lodge. After his passing away in 1879, we find from old records that on 22nd December 1880, a lodge was cosecrated in his name, with RW Bro. J G Coleman, P.Dy. Dist Grand Master as its first master. 140+ years since, the Lodge today carries its illustrious legacy forward, making good men better, serving the society, and having fun while at it!
